New single arrives Friday, September 25, 2026, as the next chapter from The Game, with a cinematic music video soon to follow
DAYTON, OH — Sometimes the people, places and moments that alter the course of our lives arrive without warning.
That idea sits at the center of “Unexpected Connections,” the new single from guitarist, singer and songwriter Eric Jerardi, arriving Friday, September 25, 2026. The track is the latest chapter from his forthcoming album The Game, due October 30, 2026 via Alternator Records and Niche Records, with distribution through Sony/The Orchard.
Written by Eric Jerardi and Michael James, “Unexpected Connections” explores what can happen when we get beyond rejection, assumptions and the walls we build around ourselves long enough to recognize the possibilities directly in front of us.
At its heart is a simple idea: some of the most important relationships in our lives begin as accidents.
A chance conversation.
A person we almost never met.
A door we nearly didn’t walk through.
A connection we could never have planned.
“Unexpected connections are everywhere,” says Jerardi. “Sometimes you have to free your mind enough to actually see them. You can spend so much time looking for what you think you need that you miss the person, the moment or the opportunity standing right in front of you.”
Musically, the track carries the soulful, guitar-driven foundation that has defined Jerardi’s career while pushing further into the cinematic atmosphere of The Game. The song evolved during the writing process from a more literal interpretation of its original prompt into something broader and more personal, with the chorus helping unlock the direction of the finished recording.
Jerardi’s guitar work also introduces a distinctive octave-driven texture influenced in part by the expansive sound of Jimi Hendrix’s “Third Stone from the Sun,” giving the track a hypnotic edge beneath its deeply human lyric.
“Unexpected Connections” continues an increasingly visible run for Jerardi.
The music video for “Setting Sun” has now surpassed 40,000 views on YouTube, while the recently released “Thorns & Roses” video has surged beyond 125,000 views, creating more than 165,000 combined YouTube views between the first two visual chapters of the campaign.
Both songs have also helped expand Jerardi’s reach through radio, press and streaming, including support from Apple Music’s New in Rock, radio stations across the country, and recognition for “Setting Sun” among notable Dolby Atmos releases.
That momentum now leads directly into “Unexpected Connections,” available Friday, September 25, 2026.
A CINEMATIC MUSIC VIDEO IS COMING
A new music video for “Unexpected Connections” is currently being prepared and will be released in the near future.
Directed and executive produced by Allen Farst, the filmmaker behind Jerardi’s recent visual releases, the video expands the song’s meaning through a series of cinematic stories illustrating how seemingly insignificant encounters can alter entire lives.
The concept moves through moments of near-missed connection — friendship, mentorship, love, coincidence and human interaction — before those individual stories begin to intersect.
Objects, locations and people visually connect across scenes, gradually revealing that events that initially appear unrelated may be part of something much larger.
The stories ultimately converge around music itself.
The visual concept reflects one of the central ideas behind the song:
Sometimes the most important moments in our lives do not announce themselves. We simply meet someone, take a chance, change direction — and suddenly, everything connects.
The production combines practical performance photography of Jerardi with carefully designed cinematic imagery, continuing the ambitious visual approach established throughout The Game campaign.
THE NEXT MOVE IN THE GAME
“Unexpected Connections” is part of a larger story.
The Game began with an unusual challenge: write 12 songs in 12 weeks, with participants receiving a new mandatory prompt each week and being required to build a song around it.
What began as an exercise in songwriting became something considerably more personal.
Across the record, Jerardi examines aging, loss, relationships, mortality, risk, identity and the realization that there may be fewer days ahead than behind.
“What began as a game became a mirror,” Jerardi has said of the project.
“Unexpected Connections” is one of the album’s clearest expressions of that evolution. Rather than simply answering a songwriting prompt, the track asks a larger question about how much of a life is shaped by encounters we never could have predicted.
The recording features Eric Jerardi on lead vocals and lead guitar, with Michael James contributing guitars, keyboards and background vocals and Eric Colvin on keyboards, bass and drums. Background vocals include Cindy Walker, Marie Lewey and Rachael Schroeder.
The Game is produced and mixed by Michael James, with Allen Farst serving as Executive Producer.
After nearly three decades of building his reputation around guitar-driven blues, rock, soul and songwriting, Jerardi views The Game as more than another collection of songs. It represents a record about perspective — what remains important when the noise begins to disappear.
With “Setting Sun” opening the door, “Thorns & Roses” accelerating the campaign and now “Unexpected Connections” arriving September 25, Jerardi and his team are building toward the October 30 release of The Game one chapter at a time.
And appropriately, the next chapter is about what happens when the pieces of a life begin connecting in ways no one expected.
